Why does the error "device not ready" appear and how can I fix it?

S
Answer by Sean Hill

The error device not ready is not commonly a program issue. It usually comes from the media on which you are trying to write the information. To discover what is causing this problem, you should Run ImgBurn, select Write Image Files to Disc then click Tools > Drive > Capabilities and verify that writing your type of media is allowed (e.g. DVD-R, DVD+R) - it should have a marked checkbox next to it. If it is allowed, you can try to see if your firmware is up to date by clicking Check for firmware updates. If this doesn't help, try cleaning the disc drive with proper tools and change the media type.

How do I synchronize cache in ImgBurn manually?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

You can't synchronize cache manually since this is an automated process available when the IMGBurn finishes writing CD or DVD. I have looked through all the available settings and options, but nothing was available - which means it's a process you can't control. However, if the Synchronizing Cache will stuck, press F8. This will continue the operation regardless of the operation currently undergoing.

During synchronization it always displays an error. I re-installed the newest version, but it still happens. What to do?

Answer by Stephen Prastman

If this issue persists with the latest version as well, then you need to uninstall IMGBurn and uninstall the drivers for the CD/DVD-ROM as well. To do this, go to Device Manager using Start > Run > devmgmt.msc. Locate the device and right click it selecting Uninstall Driver. After this process, change the cable of the device to another port and start the PC again. Let Windows install the drivers and then re-install IMGBurn, but go to Options first and use Restore Defaults.

I receive a message saying there's an i/o error in ImgBurn. What is it?

S
Answer by Sean Hill

The I/O error is called an Interpretation error and it occurs when Windows tries to read the disc that you are burning, interrupting ImgBurn. You can fix this by doing the following:

  1. Close ImgBurn and remove your CD.
  2. Restart Your computer.
  3. Open Task Manager
  4. Close all unnecessary programs and processes (iTunes, iTunes helper, etc.)
  5. Open ImgBurn and insert your CD/DVD while keeping Task Manager open.
  6. Find ImgBurn in processes and right click it. Then go to Set Priority -> High
  7. Burn the CD/DVD

The direct link to the german language file is: http://download.imgburn.com/translations/german.zip

Unfortunately, ImgBurn doesn't write images to USB thumb drives. If you need to burn bootable images you should choose another type of media to use with this software.

As an alternative, you can use Rufus to create a bootable USB drive using an ISO or any other compatible image file.

How does verification work in imgBurn?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

Verification will spin the drive at its maximum supported speed and copy the content. It will automatically test various parameters like copy speed, duration, performance, etc. If everything is OK, the process will display the values in the window below the main one. Verification is best to be used in case you want an extra layer of assurance that the burnt CD/DVD is good and ready to be used or sent to someone else.

Unfortunately ImgBurn cannot edit ISO contents. If you want to edit an ISO image, the safest way is to copy the files on your HDD after you've mounted the image with the help of Daemon Tools, replace the files that you want and then create a new image. That way you will have the original and the modified versions of the image.

Note: Editing an ISO through file copy will break the bootable feature.

How can I find solutions and help for errors in ImgBurn?

Stephen Prastman
Answer by Stephen Prastman

IMGBurn handles the errors a bit different. For example, it provides information about an error in the log window, but to properly get help a user needs to access the Support Forum where a section for Support is available. You need to register for an username and post the contents from log on the forum then skilled users and official technicians will help you diagnose and fix the problem.
